Mary Zio

Expressionistic & Free-Spirited

Disengaged from the rules of realism, Mary Zio explores emotion, time, space, and subject matter through the interaction of color, form, and movement. Influenced by her study of color theory with Leonard Stokes and Josef Albers’s teachings on color interaction and perception, she finds her subject matter in the shifting relationships between colors. Through organic and geometric forms—sometimes tightly contained and sometimes freely expressionistic—she paints as an ongoing dialogue between colors.
