Joseph Sand

Eastern & Southern Influence in Clay

Joseph Sand discovered his love of clay as a child and later committed fully to pottery while studying art at the University of Minnesota–Duluth, where he earned a BFA with a ceramics emphasis. He and his wife Amanda live with their two sons on sixteen acres near Randleman, North Carolina, where they established a pottery. There, Joseph fires a large, handmade anagama-style kiln and creates wood-fired salt and ash-glazed wares that blend Southern ceramic traditions with East Asian influences.
